It’s been a bit.
Sorry about that!
(He says, as if you’ve been pacing the floor wondering when the next issue would drop.)
Life’s been busy since the last time we checked in.
Probably the busiest I’ve ever been.
Cycled to the southernmost tip of Japan.
And then the islands further south.
Then hopped a plane to Okinawa.
Back to the States (with Miles in tow).
And then spent a few months with the fam, working, boxing, painting, planning and trying to wrap my head around… well…
how life goes going forward.
We’ll get into the drastic change of pace—I think I touched on it a few months ago.
But don’t let that make you think this is anything but INCREDIBLE, because it is.
Here’s what Japan Again / Issue 12 has in store:
-
A creepy visit to the abandoned island of Gunkanjima—made famous in a 007 film (password in email).
-
We unravel the mystery of Japanese Curry—and the allure.
-
A shocking strong diatribe and surprising critique of Japan re: their stance on tattoos.
-
We visit the hidden churches of Goto, plus get into the dark-yet-interesting history
-
A City Guide to Tokyo
-
A Letter from Nina’s [or] The Beginning of the End for this old wanderer
-
A photo gallery of our second big trip to the country
-
The weird and possibly wonderful island that is Okinawa
-
And we ride the very simple ferry that tops the list of Things To Do in Mitsuhama, Japan (password in email)
… a lot, right?

Justifiably so.
Japan deserves a lot.
Let’s get into it then.
With how chaotic life seems to—as well as how long it took me to get this issue done—I had actually forgotten the gravity of what we did there in two trips.
I mean, we started at the very top of the country and cycled as far as we could go, then hopped a plane to get all the way down to Okinawa. Meaning we saw more of the country than both tourists and locals will ever get to.
And I hate that it’s easy to forget these kind of things.
But that’s also why I like this and the podcast, to have it to reflect back on.
I couldn’t have done it without you, btw.
You all fed me, cheered me on and read my little musings—all of which means the world.
As for now, by the time you read this, I’ll be on a plane from Oklahoma to Ireland, where my (adopted) nephew and I will begin our absolutely insane 115 day around-the-world trip.
A trip, of which, of course of which, I’ll document here in ON GOING.
Thanks for coming along.
It really does make these adventures special.
