Aric S. Queen began his career at 18 as a radio deejay for Z104.5 FM in Tulsa, Oklahoma, before moving to Shanghai, where he produced ChinesePod, named by TIME magazine as one of its “Top 10 Podcasts” of 2006. He later became the first foreign radio program director in China with the launch of SoulFire Radio. Aric went on to produce and host the controversial The Shanghai Diaries for Al Gore’s Current TV—a series that ultimately led to his being banned from China, an experience recounted in his novel The Shanghai [Exile] Diaries.
In 2009, Aric moved to New York, where he produced travel apps for numerous companies and worked as a copywriter for brands including Tanqueray and Swiffer. In 2012, National Geographic named him one of its “Travelers of the Year” and sent him across the United States on a multimedia journey called The Good Traveler. The following year, BBC Travel picked up his Treasure Hunters concept as a six-part series. With the proceeds, he bought a boat despite not knowing how to sail, an adventure documented for Lonely Planet in The Maritime Lemonade Stand.
In 2017, Aric moved to Berlin and joined BRLO GmbH as their Creative Director, a role he held on and off for seven years. He has traveled to more than 100 countries, completed the trek to Everest Base Camp three times, and was named one of the Top 100 Travel Photographers in the World. For the past three years, he has been filming the Sherpas and porters who work on
Everest Base Camp.
