2017
Updated: 2 days ago

2017 was a galvanizing one — from spending lots of time with my nephew as he battled cancer, to a relationship in New Orleans that fucked me up for a while, an emergency move to Europe with the bike, an old friend hiring me at her company in Berlin, down to Bavaria for my first Oktoberfest, to Paris for Pierre and every single ChristmasMarket they'd allow me into.

January We begin the year with the Women's March in OKC, a mini-press tour from a viral video I produced, Frank Lloyd Wright, family time at the pub, Tulsa secrets, Mexican food, my nephew and his fight, a visit by the old Z104.5FM studios (where I got my start), gorgeous downtown evenings, niece + new nephew, Mardi Gras season begins, visits to The Outsiders home, my twin and much more.

February
As the cold sets in, it's weekly (if not more) visits to chemo with the nephew, Mexican food, old diners with the old man, storytelling on stages, mornings with cofee, late afternoon with gin, Brother Lakey sabering champagne when I'm lucky, and downhome breakfasts that should - in theory - keep you full until lunch. From Tulsa, it's a road trip with Dad...

... to Kansas City, MO - where he grew up (nearby) for BBQ, one of the US's best bars, architecture, kin and more. And then it's back to...

... Tulsa - for gorgeous winter evenings, more time with the nephew, a remembrance of "Hondo" - the radio deejay who became my mentor, and a plead for work. But things were about to change - and I found myself a week later down in New Orleans for Mardi Gras.
(We'll skip March and April for now. Someday, perhaps.)

May
We end up in Copenhagan - new bicycle in tow (no easy feat) - for a few days of chairs, boats, unpronouncable food and colors. Our friend Jess flies in to check on us, helping the preparation of another big bicycle adventure.
